WHAT TO BRING (GUIDED/SEMI-GUIDED HUNTS)

BASIC CLOTHING FOR EACH SEASON

Archery – Both warm and cold weather layers

  • Camo moisture wicking lightweight layers
    Boots (hiking or non-insulated)

Muzzleloader – Same as archery

  • Fluorescent orange vest and hat (minimum 500sq inches)

Rifle – Cold weather layers

  • Moisture wicking insulated layers
  • Boots both insulated and non-insulated
  • Fluorescent orange vest and hat (minimum 500sq inches)

BASIC HUNT GEAR FOR ALL SEASONS

  • Binoculars
  • Rangefinder
  • Backpack (with or without water bladder)
  • Headlamp and/or flashlight
  • Hand warmers
  • Sunscreen/aloe
  • Chapstick
  • Game bags
  • Game processing tools/knives

    2-3 large coolers for meat storage and transport back home
  • If cpap is required for sleeping, please bring a small generator (no electricity in the cabins)

DO’S & DON’T’S (QUALITY EXPERIENCE & SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY IN CAMP AND WHILE HUNTING)

  • Alcohol is not provided by the outfitter.  Alcohol is permitted at the end of day after weapons are stored. If caught consuming alcohol during hunting the client forfeits that day of hunting and will be returned back to camp.
  • No drug policy. No drug use or drugs allowed on premises or during hunt. If caught you will forfeit your hunt entirely.
  • Nearest town (monte vista) is 35 miles so please have everything you need before heading up the mountain.
  • Please have your gun/bow sited in prior to arrival at basecamp
  • Outfitter/client is required by law to report a violation or unlawful kill. Please know your species.

DAILY TEMPS

  •  Variety of temps and weather conditions (expect the unexpected)
  • Archery varying temps (40’s-60’s)
  • Rifle seasons varying temps (teens-60’s)

DAILY WEATHER CONDITIONS

  • Archery – can be hot & dry to cool, rainy & windy
  • Rifle – can be windy, warm 60’s to cold mornings in the teens with rain, sleet or snow possible

LODGING

  • Meals are served at the main house
  • Restroom/shower facilities at the main house
  • Basic cabin or garage loft sleeping accommodations with twin beds (cabins are located near the main house)
  • Propane or wood heat
  • Cabins sleep 2-4 (some with sleeping loft area)
  • Garage loft sleeps 5

DIRECTIONS TO BASECAMP

  • From monte vista intersection of hwy 15 & 285, go south on hwy 15 for 12 miles
  • After 12 miles on hwy 15, turn right (west) onto forest service rd 250
  • Drive 23 miles on forest service rd
  • Cross the cattle guard, entering jasper (old town) and continue approximately ½ mile
  • Just past the jasper sign, turn right (north) onto red gated rd
  • You will immediately turn right into our circle drive.
  • Welcome, you have arrived at basecamp!

WHAT TO EXPECT UPON ARRIVAL DAY

Arrival to basecamp after 3p.M. On the day prior to your hunt. Dinner is typically served around 5:30-6p.M. You will settle into your cabin/loft, unpack, prepare for your hunt the following day. You will meet with our guides at dinner, if you have booked a guided or semi-guided hunt.

BASIC DAY

  • Starts at 5A.M. With breakfast
  • Pack lunch & water for hunt day
  • Hunt all day until sunset
  • Dinner served at the main house upon return
  • Relax/prepare for next day hunt

WHAT TO EXPECT: OFF-GRID EXPERIENCE

  • No electricity except at the main house (generator powered)
  • No electricity in cabins
  • No internet
  • No cell service
  • Landline available at main house
  • If cpap is required for sleeping you will need to bring a small generator
  • Electronics can be charged at the main house while generator is on

Please purchase everything you need prior to heading up the mountain. 

GAME/MEAT PROCESSORS

There are a couple of meat processors in Monte Vista, Alamosa and Del Norte. 

You will be responsible for the meat once it is back at basecamp.  (Most seasons meat can be hung in the shade overnight to cool then deboned and put into coolers on ice) You will need to travel back to town to purchase ice.

TIPS

 Tips for the Guides, Cooks and other personnel at camp are at the hunters discretion. Appreciated but Not Required.
